ROCKUP

Unfortunately Rockup is over for another year, but we have kept the information below so you can start getting yourself sorted for next year!!

The entry requirements are a little broader this year allowing members to be aged between 12 and 30 years HOWEVER the average age should be no more than 25 years. This helps open up opportunities for those bands that might just have one or two more experienced members - so with that it should be a great mix of experience and styles, and we are looking forward to our best year yet!

Expressions of interest can be collected from our offices at Youth Worx 28 Main St Lithgow, phone 6352 2132 during office hours, or click on “contact” to send us an email. Letters of confirmation will then be sent out notifying setup and performance times.

Spread the word….....

What Is Rock Up?

Rock Up is a group of young people in the Central West aiming to provide more
opportunities for all age drug and alcohol free entertainment in our own district. Rock
Up was started in Orange in 2003 with the aim of organising all-ages gigs and
activities for the youth of the Central West, as well as trying to develop a profile for
the Central West as a musical hotspot, with the Band Competition expanding from 4
events in Orange in 2004 to 13 events in Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst, Condobolin,
Cowra and Lithgow in 2008. The Rock Up committee’s key interest is music, and
many of the members of this group have an interest in event management,
professional production, and are musicians themselves.

How Do I Enter a Band into the Rock Up Battle of the Bands?

The audition process involves sending a demo OR web link (eg Myspace site) with
songs on it, a photo, biography and the application form to your local Rock Up
committee (bands can only enter into heats in one town). We use the Demo’s to
grade your bands ability, genre and sound and try to align your band/act as best as
possible with similar bands to give you the best positioning possible in the heats.
Demos will be accepted on CD’s, Cassette Tapes, Video, DVD, Website etc. Sound
quality isn’t a major issue. Bands are also able to request an audition in person if
unable to get a recording together, where the committee will video the performance
and use as the demo for auditioning purposes.

What Are The Prizes?

Heats: The Winner and Runner Up of each town heat progress through to the local Semi Final
Semi-Final: $ Cash (Divided amongst place getters at each Semi-Final), plus winner gains entry into the Regional Final.

Regional Final: ...................

Winner: .......................

Runner Up: .......................

Additional Prizes
Bands will also be allocated supporter cards that they can use to promote the heat
they are in by giving them to their supporters and the supporters handing them in at
the door on the night. The band with the most supporter cards collected at the end of
the night will win a musical prize pack. Plus an audience member will also be
randomly drawn for a lucky door prize.

What Gear Will I Need?

Rock Up will provide a stage with PA, mic’s and monitors. Please contact your local
Rock Up committee in relation to instrumentation and on stage line up and mic
requirements. Band members will be required to bring all their own instruments,
leads and accessories although a drum kit may be provided (please contact your
local committee for details).
