Growing older can come with challenges. Aging people may find themselves less independent and may have difficulty doing things they are used to doing.

It is normal to need support with doing things that used to be done easily. Some things that aging people might need help with include:

  • Household chores like cleaning
  • Maintaining the garden
  • Doing the weekly shopping
  • Going into Centrelink or the bank
  • Driving or using public transport
  • Visiting family and friends
  • Dealing with grief or saddness
  • Adapting to a changing lifestyle
  • Managing health and disease

Aging people who do not seek support when needed might experience:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Potential injury
  • Exhaustion
  • Increased cost
  • Isolating and loneliness

It is important for people to stay active as they age by keeping up with hobbies and interests when possible. Keeping in contact with family and friends is important to make sure that aging does not become an isolating experience.
