Financial

People who have become homeless or experienced life crises (eg DV, abuse, frequent moving, belongings destroyed or taken) often experience difficulties with finances. Some of the challenges people face include:

  • housing or rental debts
  • some coping strategies such as AOD use make budgeting difficult
  • some people have not learnt the lifeskill of how to manage a budget
  • pressure, or feelings of obligation to look after extended family or friends may result in the giving away of money or food
  • feelings of guilt may mean that unaffordable purchases are made to “make up” for, or cover up difficulties
  • government assistance can be extremely difficult to live on, as it provides for ‘survival’ only

There are people who can help talk things through, sort out priorities and work out a plan to manage debt:

  • Credit Line Central West 6332 3456
  • Centrelink 131 021
    • Social Worker @ Lithgow Centrelink Michael Douglas
